QUOTE: Valentino Rossi on Marco Simoncelli at Estoril 2011
Mar 27
Valentino Rossi at Estoril during 2011 Portuguese Grand Prix
“Simoncelli is my friend, but on track we are two racers and two rivals. Today he was fastest in both practice sessions, so I’d say he is doing pretty well.”
These were the words of Valentino Rossi following the Friday practice sessions at Estoril.
via Rossi: Stoner has to race alone.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Pedrosa passed the chequered flag first, three seconds ahead of reigning MotoGP World Champion Lorenzo. Stoner had a lonely race in third but all eyes were all on the battle behind the Australian between Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) and Andrea Dovizioso. The Repsol Honda rider stayed close to Rossi throughout the race and managed to snatch the fourth place on the very last lap as they crossed the start finish line. The nine time World Champion? previous lowest result here in Estoril had been a fourth place from 11 starts.
And Simoncelli? Starting from the first row, which was only his second front row start in the premier class, Sic made it to turn 4 on the first lap before firing himself spectacularly skywards from the San Carlo Honda Gresini machine, his second accident of the Portuguese weekend. The Italian who crashed whilst in contention for pole position during qualifying, came off at the beginning of the race whilst in third.
via Pedrosa powers to first victory of the season in Estoril.
